In the world of today there is a lot of focus on going green, as well as saving some of the green in your bank account. All of the marketing during the holiday season, and even during neutral times of the year, is really starting to do some damage to our nation.

What are we supposed to do when a loved one has a birthday and we can’t afford to get them a gift? How can we average working people spare the time it takes to actually do something to help the environment? Well, for starters, it doesn’t take money to let somebody know that you care. We need to ditch this mentality that money makes the world go round.

If you really want to let somebody know that you love them, you should make a present of your own rather than going out and buying an object that anybody else could buy. This will save you money as well. Don’t bother buying birthday gifts or birthday cards.

There are free online greeting cards all over the internet that will save you up to three dollars per card, plus you won’t be wasting the paper. Even if you try to do a good deed by recycling the paper, or buying a greeting card that was made with recycled paper, you are still negatively affecting the environment. The process of recycling paper produces many harmful chemicals that get dumped into our water supply.

In addition to online greeting cards, e cards websites usually have invitations as well, so you can send an e-vite instead of a paper invitation.  Certain websites will also help you to help the environment further by donating money to an organization of your choice.

For every ecard you send, a bit of money will be sent to help a cause such as ASPCA, the WWF, and other environmental and humanitarian organizations. So you will be saving paper as well as helping to raise money for people who devote all of their time to saving the planet so that you can focus on your working life.

So instead of your usual Mother’s Day flowers and gifts, try sending a Mothers Day ecard. You don’t need to wait for holidays, either. In addition to birthday ecards and holiday themed ecards, you can send an ecard to raise environmental awareness, and for any other occasion that you can come up with.

You can create your own subject for the card if you can’t find one that says what you want to say. Many of the websites will allow you to make a card with the picture, animation, and music stock that they have in their database. This is better than just choosing a premade card for somebody, because you put your own effort into it and added in elements that you know they would enjoy, plus it as a little bit of you in it.

If you don’t feel like making a card from scratch, then you can browse through the hundreds of cards they have on the website. You could even just pick a stock background and write your own words. That is still better than going out and purchasing a greeting card from the drugstore; corny, overpriced pieces of garbage that they are.
